Empire United's Ben Cross Hired by Columbus Crew

Cross identified by Crew after a successful coaching career with Empire United's Development Academy

In early 2016, Empire United's Ben Cross received a phone call from the Columbus Crew.  As it turns out, Cross, the Empire United Development Academy U17/18 Head Coach for the past several seasons, was recommended to the Crew to interview for a Head Coach position within the Crew Academy system.  In early April, Cross was hired by the Crew as their Head Coach for their U17/18 Development Academy squad, effective immediately.

A tenured Science teacher at Dake Junior High School in Irondequoit, Cross is now able to live his dream of being a full time professional soccer coach.  Cross graduated from Pittsford Mendon High School and attended the University of Rochester, where he was a two time All-Region player for the Yellowjackets.  After graduating from Rochester, Cross began his coaching career with Empire United Soccer Academy (Rochester Junior Rhinos at the time, before the Empire United merger) and has been working his way up the ranks ever since.  He holds the prestigious United States Soccer Federation "A" License, has had a published article in Soccer America, and has been a part of the US Soccer Development Academy on the Empire United staff since it's inception in 2008.

Congratulations to Ben, and best of luck to him and his family, who will be missed within our club and soccer community!
