The Rochester Girls U12 team, under Jason Dentel, won the Arlington Spring Invitational tournament contested March 10-12 weekend.
The team started out Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Bethesda. In 35 degree temps with 15 mph winds the girls utilized a small passing game to deal with the elements.
In the second game the ladies faced host club Arlington. The Empire girls got up 1-0 early in the game and the next 40 minutes were highly contested. Aided by the benefit of an own goal, which came about because of high pressure up top, the girls went on to win 2-0 and clinch a trip to the final after day 1.
On Sunday morning the temperatures warmed up to the mid 40s and Empire United stayed hot with a 1-0 victory over Great Falls as they prepared for the Final where they faced an undefeated VYS Phoenix. Empire put a ton of pressure and had 5 shots on goal in the first 5 minutes. It was a crafty change of field that led to the only goal of the final. Throughout the tournament, Empire scored 6 goals and did not allow a goal.
Congratulations on your first championship of the season Ladies!
