Two Empire United Alumni selected as NCAA DIII All-Americans

Two Empire United Alumni have recently been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as Division III All-Americans.

SUNY Cortland senior men's forward Nick Tata (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) has been chosen as a Division III First-Team All-East Region and First-Team All-American for the 2016 season.  Tata is one of five Red Dragons to earn NSCAA All-East Region honors.  Tata finished the season with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points in 22 games. He currently is tied for fourth nationally in Division III with seven game-winning goals. He opened the season with a goal in each of Cortland's first five games, tallied two goals each in wins over Hobart and Canton, and assisted on two goals in Cortland's NCAA first-round win over Morrisville State.  Cortland won two NCAA Division III tournament games to advance to the "Sweet 16" for the second time in three seasons before losing 1-0 in overtime to Franklin & Marshall College.

Houghton College men's soccer senior defender Jesse Toth was also selected as a Division III Third-Team All-American as well as First-Team All-East Region player.   Toth earned All-Midwest Region First-Team honors for the third consecutive year as a premier defender not only within the conference but also on the national stage throughout his senior year.   He adds those distinctions to a cache of other awards already received this fall, including the highest of all NCCAA honors for men's soccer, the Kyle Rote, Jr. Award, and added his fourth consecutive First-Team All-Empire 8 Conference selection.  The Houghton College Highlanders went on to an 11-7-4 mark on the year,  a 10 game unbeaten streak and making appearances in the Empire 8 Conference Championship game and the NCCAA National Tournament.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America serves as the recognized leader in naming All-Region and All-America soccer players. The NSCAA selects All-America teams at every level of play. NSCAA members have the opportunity to nominate their players to receive richly deserved recognition while helping promote the growth of the sport.  Nearly 800 players each year are named NSCAA All-Americas and are invited to the Convention to be honored at a special luncheon.

Tata and Toth will be honored at the 2016 NSCAA Convention in Los Angeles, CA January 11-15, 2017.

Congratulations Nick and Jesse!
