Empire United players attend the U.S Soccer National Training Center in Rhode Island

Empire United Soccer Academy had four players represent the club at the U.S Soccer National Training Center in Rhode Island yesterday. Ely Sidibe (Boys 02), Nick Swanger (Boys 02), Brennan McDermott (Boys 05) and Luke Reidell (Boys 05).

Our boys took to the field early yesterday morning alongside some of the best players from all over the North East of the US. Brennan McDermott (as seen above with Luke Reidell) said "It was a great opportunity to play with some of the best players from different states and Academies. To train with National Team coaches, was an awesome experience".

What is the U.S Soccer National Training Center?

U.S. Soccer is conducting training sessions in conjunction with local clubs and state associations to identify players with Youth National Team potential. Training Centers (TC) will be conducted by a member of the U.S. Soccer National Team staff. TCs are a new platform designed to improve player identification, player development and coach development. Each TC will be administered by the Academy conference’s Technical Advisor, assisted by Academy coaches and National Team coaches. Most TCs will be aligned with the Youth National Team calendar to evaluate players before trips and camps. Top players from each Academy club at both age groups will be invited to attend the training sessions.

Brennan and Luke will also be traveling to North Carolina alongside 34 other Empire United Rochester, Empire United Buffalo and Syracuse Development Academy players this weekend. The teams will play in the first major event of the 2017-18 Development Academy season in The East Conference Boys' Regional Showcase.

The Showcase is a Development Academy event that brings together clubs from all over the country to compete in a series of highly-competitive, hand-picked games. The Fall Showcases are the first events for players in the Academy pathway, catering to the U-13 and U-14 age groups. Showcase events are also held in the Winter, Spring and Summer, but the Fall events are the only ones that put younger age groups solely in the spotlight.
